Open Engagement is an annual, three-day, artist-led conference dedicated to expanding the dialogue around and creating a site of care for the field of socially engaged art. The conference highlights the work of transdisciplinary artists, activists, students, scholars, community members, and organizations working within the complex social issues and struggles of our time. This year’s theme is justice. The conference is now in its 9th year and will feature presenters, including Theaster Gates, Maria Gaspar, Maria Varela, Ai-jen Poo, Marisa Jahn, and Laurie Jo Reynolds. The event brings together artists, activists, thinkers, institutions and thinkers to explore the theme of Justice and provide a platform for the field of socially engaged art and practice.
Rebecca Kautz will present her work, “Artist Working: a year-long durational performance on art, value and caregiving.”
